| Q: | Is there a way to examine the validity of the Dai-Gohonzon? |
| A: | Nichiren established a system for proving the validity of any Buddhist doctrine. The logic that Nichiren introduced is based on the Three Proofs: |
1. The Documentary Proof: requiring that the doctrine of a particular Buddhist school is based on — or accords with — the sutras (the Lotus Sutra in particular).
2. The Theoretical Proof: requiring that the examined doctrine is compatible with reason, displaying logical consistency with the intent and purpose of Buddhism.
3. The Actual
Proof: requiring that the doctrine manifest its truth in the reality
of the daily lives of ordinary people. "Nothing is more certain than the
actual proof." (The
